Nature Morte Berlin freut sich die erste
Berliner Einzelausstellung des Künstler
T.V. Santhosh /
anzukündigen. Die Ausstellung „The
Land“ findet in Zusammenarbeit mit The
Guild Gallery aus Mumbai statt. #
Unser Verhältnis zur Außenwelt ist
größtenteils durch die Medien definiert.
Nachrichtenreportagen sind fast wie eine
Erweiterung unseres Sehvermögens und
werden zu einem Teil unserer
Alltagserfahrung. Im Kontext der
momentanen Unruhen im Mittleren
Osten hat sich die Rolle der Medien und
die Natur des Krieges verändert. #
Der derzeitige Konflikt ist einzigartig in
vielerlei Hinsicht. Zunächst, ist er ein
von innen angetriebenes Ereignis,
unabhängig von den normalen
Kriegsinstrumenten, Hass und der
Politik der Angst, und wird stattdessen
von einer demokratischen Wahl geleitet,
die, die Menschen aus dieser Region für
sich selbst kreiert haben, innerhalb und
gegen das unterdrückerische System in
dem sie leben. Dies verlagert den
Konflikt von einem externen zu einem
internen Feind und von einer politischen
Motivation hin zu ökonomischen und
individuellen Beweggründen. / Zweitens
bemühen sich die internationalen Medien
eine schlüssige Perspektive zu
entwickeln, welche allerdings getrübt ist
durch die, von der Außenpolitik geprägte,
offizielle Version. /
Aber die Rolle der alternativen Medien
und freien sozialen Netzwerken wurde zu
einem Instrument die angestaute Energie
der Unterdrückten zu mobilisieren. In
einem Artikel für die New York Times
kommentierte der Journalist Anthony
Shadid den Konflikt:

„Niemand scheint zu wissen als was man
diesen Konflikt bezeichnen soll - eine
Revolution, einen Bürgerkrieg, oder
übersetzt aus dem im Arabischen als"Die
Events" bezeichnet - eine Kurzfassung für
verwirrende Gewalt."

Diese neuen Arbeiten von T.V. Santhosh
sind das Ergebnis seiner
Auseinandersetzung mit der sich
wandelnden Natur von Krieg, Gedächtnis
und Wahrnehmung. Die Verlagerung von
Theorien der Konfliktlösung hin zu den
wirklichen Umständen der Opfer,
Unterdrücker, internationalen
Friedenshelfer und Staaten hat deutlich
gemacht, dass solche Konflikte immer
komplexer werden und das Lösungen in
vielen anderen Kontexten schwer zu
greifen sind. /
T.V. Santhoshs Arbeiten bedienen sich
vieler linguistischer Mittel, wie der
Farbkodierung und der Möglichkeiten
positive Bilder ins Negative umzukehren.
Diese Arbeiten zeichnen ein Bild
sozialer Unruhe und ihrer politischen
Implikationen durch die Konstruktion von
vielschichtigen Metaphern, welche die
geschichtliche Entwicklung der Natur des
Krieges, der Menschenrechte und der
Staatsbürgerschaft erkunden.

T.V. Santhosh wurde 1968 geboren und
erhielt seinen BFA von Shantiniketan und
seinen
MFA von der MS University in Baroda in
Indien. Seine Einzelausstellungen
umfassen The Guild in Mumbai, Nature
Morte in Neu Delhi sowie Jack Shainman
Gallery in New York. Er nahm an
internationalen Gruppenausstellungen
teil, wie Collectors' Stage: Asian
Contemporary Art from Private

Nature Morte Berlin is pleased to
announce "The Land," the first solo
exhibition of
works by the artist T. V. Santhosh in
Berlin. The exhibition is in collaboration
with The
Guild, Mumbai.
#
Today, the News Media, to a large
extent, defines the nature of our
relationship with
the outside world. News reports act as
our extended visions that eventually
become
part of our everyday experiences. In the
context of the current turmoil in the
Middle
East, the role of the News Media and its
relation to the nature of war has been
shifting.
#
The present conflict is unique in many
ways. First, it is an internally generated
event
that has been largely independent of the
usual tools of war, hate and the politics
of
fear, and is instead driven by a
democratic choice that the people of
these regions
have created for themselves within and
in spite of the oppressive systems which
govern them. This changes considerably
the nature of this conflict from an
external
to an internal enemy and from a political
motivation to an economic and
individually
driven motivation. Secondly, the
international media struggle to form a
cohesive
perspective of the events, muddled with
official versions defined by the foreign
policies. Yet the role of alternative media
and free social network sites essentially
has become a tool in mobilizing the pent-
up energies of the oppressed. The
reporter,
Anthony Shadid, writing in the New York
Times, commented on this conflict:
“No one seems to know what to call this
conflict — a revolution, a civil war or, in
a
translation of what some call it in Arabic,
“the events,” a shorthand for confusing
violence."

This group of new works by T. V.
Santhosh is the outcome of his
preoccupation with
the images of the on-going and changing
nature of war, memory and perception.
The
shift from theories of resolution to
conflicts to the actualities of those who
are victims,
oppressors, international peace-keepers
and nation states has also clearly
indicated
that the nature of these conflicts is
becoming more complex while solutions
seem to
be more elusive. T. V. Santhosh’s
paintings and sculptures employ the
linguistic
devices of color codes and graffiti, as
well as the inversions of positive images
into
their negatives. These works are a
mapping of social unrest and its political
implications by constructing multiple
layers of metaphors, investigating the
evolving
histories of the nature of war, human
rights and citizenship.

T. V. Santhosh was born in 1968 and
completed his BFA from Santiniketan and
MFA
from the M. S. University in Baroda, both
in India. He has held solo shows of his
works at The Guild in Mumbai, Nature
Morte in New Delhi and the Jack
Shainman
Gallery in New York, as well as
participating in a wide variety of group
shows around
the world. International exhibitions which
